Kingston Wall
Vuonna 1987 perustettiin helsinkiläinen psykedeelinen rock-yhtye Kingston Wall. He olivat saaneet vaikutteita monilta rock-musiikin kuuluisuuksilta, kuten Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix ja Led Zeppelin. Yhtye perusti oman levy-yhtiönsä, Trinityn, jota johti yhtyeen perustaja ja kitaristi Petri Walli. Yhtyeen debyyttialbumi, Kingston Wall I, psykedeelinen hard rock -teos, julkaistiin vuonna 1992, ja sillä on myös 21 minuuttinen jättihitti "Mushrooms." Yhtye julkaisi toisen albuminsa, Kingston Wall II, helmikuussa 1993. Albumi koostui akustisista ja folk-kappaleista, eikä sillä kuultu ensialbumin hard rockia.
Kingston Wall julkaisi albumin III - Tri -Logy syksyllä vuonna 1994.

Hello Moataz Abdalkader,

Thank you for your feedback.

We really value your input and feedback and we are always looking forward to developing our lessons, based on our student's feedback.

On the other hand, this series is planned to advanced level students assuming that there may be some homework to be done by students side too. Different students on this level have different vocabulary skills and therefore some words may be missing which someone might want to be added here.

Anyway, thank you again for your feedback, Moataz. We really appreciate it!

Let us know if you have any question.

Cheers,

Aarni

Hello Finnishpod101 team,

Thank you for the great effort you put in making these lessons, but I really want to emphasize the point that Elsie Parker mentioned earlier!

it very often happens with many lessons, that after I listen to a lesson like the one above and go to check the vocabulary list, I find that it contains words that feels to be of little significance or relevance compared to many other words that the lesson contains and which were not included, and which after translating them leave me feeling that they really enriched my vocabulary, again for example the lesson above:

the lesson contains words like: itsemurha (suicide), julkaista ( to release or publish), Jäsen (member), päättää (to decide), hajota (to fall a part or breakdown), these words are not included in the list, instead you include many words which I think are dispensable when it comes to the everyday life use of a language.

Thank you.

Hei Elsie,

Thank you for your comments, links and questions.

We’ll consider your feedback for our future development.

1)Lakimies riisuu vaatteensa.

The lawyer takes off his clothes.

2)Lakimies riisuu vaatteitaan.

The lawyer is taking off his clothes.

Yes, these are exact translations and this latter one means mostly that he is taking off his clothes at the moment, right now.

perustettiin=established

saaneet vaikutteita = were influenced by?

Yes, these are correct translations. 👍

Let us know if you have any questions.

Cheers,

Aarni

Moi!

In this lesson, instead of listing

reggae =reggae

techno=techno

and many other words which are similar in Finnish and English

in the vocabuly list,

why not the words used in the dialogue which we have not learned yet?

for example:

perustettiin=established

saaneet vaikutteita = were influenced by?

There are SO many other new and difficult words.

I DON'T need to drill that techno=techno...

but the others, YES.

Moi-

In the Flashcard vocabulary for the word "riisua"

these 2 sample sentances are shown:

1)Lakimies riisuu vaatteensa.

The lawyer takes off his clothes.

2)Lakimies riisuu vaatteitaan.

The lawyer is taking off his clothes.

I think I understand the 'nsa' ending to he HIS clothes.

Is the 'an' ending possesive, also making the meaning specifically HIS clothes? Or is it

just "The lawyer is taking off clothes"

In sentance #2, is it not so specifically HIS clothes, we just assume that they are his?

Kiitos!

Moi-

I did listen to/look at some Youtubes of Kingston Wall.

I was happy to see they use a soprano sax player at least on a few songs.

(since playing woodwind instruments is what my job is)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9Qma8tpSeE "Shine on Me" (1992)

It's a little dissapointing to me as someone wanting to learn Finnish, that the first songs I've found are all in

English.

Moi Elsie,

Thank you for your posting.

"So the endings "ilta" are all there. Shoudn't they be in the printed dialogue? Can you correct this with the correct spelling, please? I always think I am spelling something incorrectly."

Thank you for pointing this out, Elsie. Actually, it is correct to leave "lta" ending out of the sentence. Also, it is correct to add it. The word "kuten" (such as) makes this possible. Apologies for possible confusion in this case. Kindly add this to your notes.

What would the ending "ilta" here translate best to "by"?

Ending "-lta", "-ltä" means in English "from somebody" or "by", as you already mentioned.

Let us know if you have any question.

Cheers,

Aarni

Moi-

in this lesson,

the printed dialogue is "He olivat saaneet vaikutteita monilta rock-musiikin kuuluisuuksilta, kuten Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix ja Led Zeppelin."

but the person reading the dialogue says ".. kuten Pink Floydilta, Jimi Hendrixilta ja Led Zeppelinilta."

So the endings "ilta" are all there. Shoudn't they be in the printed dialogue? Can you correct this with the correct spelling, please? I always think I am spelling something incorrectly.

What would the ending "ilta" here translate best to "by"?

Kiitos. I'll have to listen to this group on Youtube and see what they are like.
