Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, we’ll learn conversational phrases to answer the question “What's the matter?” After watching this video, you’ll be able to make complaints and ask someone else if they’re having any issues.
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!

Toimisto on kuuma.
Once more with the English translation.
Mikä hätänä?
“What's the matter?”
Toimisto on kuuma.
“The office is hot.”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say “What's the matter?”
That's: Mikä hätänä?
Listen to it again: Mikä hätänä?, Mikä hätänä?
“What's the matter?”
This Finnish sentence literally translates into "What's the distress?,” but it means “What's the matter?” in English.
Now, how do you answer this question?
The pattern is:
Toimisto on {adjective}.
“The office is {adjective}.”
For example:
“The office is hot.”
Toimisto on kuuma., Toimisto on kuuma.
