Lesson Transcript

Hi everyone! I’m Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to answer the question, "What are you good at?" After watching this video, you’ll be able to talk about what you’re good at doing.
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
Missä olet hyvä?
Olen hyvä kielissä.
Once more with the English translation.
Missä olet hyvä?
“What are you good at?”
Olen hyvä kielissä.
“I'm good at languages.”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say “What are you good at?”
That's: Missä olet hyvä?
Listen to it again: Missä olet hyvä?, Missä olet hyvä?
This Finnish sentence literally translates as “Where you are good?” But it means “What are you good at?”.
Now, how do you answer this question?
The pattern is:
Olen hyvä [skill].
“I'm good [skill].”
For example:
“I'm good at languages.”
Olen hyvä kielissä., Olen hyvä kielissä.
